Betty Goldstein, better known as Betty Friedan, became a leading figure in the feminist movement during the 1960’s. Friedan founded NOW (National Organization for Women) as well as the National Association for the repeal of Abortion Laws.

Friedan argued that women could equally perform jobs traditionally held by men. Additionally, she demanded that women should have access to nationalized daycare sharply contradicting her pro-abortion position.

Notable feminist Gloria Steinem also challenged traditional roles of men and women. Steinem persuaded many women to join her cause in an effort to liberate housewives from the perceived oppression of marriage and child rearing. Like Friedan, Steinem took a pro-abortion position often citing her own experience with cold indifference. In addition, Steinem drew media attention to herself denigrating the significance of John McCain’s POW imprisonment during the VietNam war.

The feminist movement was used by the moneymen and corporations to bring women out of the kitchen into the workforce, nearly doubling tax revenue. Traditional roles of men and women were reversed in an effort to weaken the family unit. Marriage and child rearing were put on the backburner as men and women became pitted against each other as competitors. As a result, women became more hostile, combative and confrontational.

Though some women became financially successful, most ironically found themselves under the oppressive heel of the corporations and central bankers.
